2008 'Cross Equipment Review

The season has ended. Sigh. I don't know what I'm going to do with myself! As I was preparing the bikes for their hyperbolic chambered rest as I switch to the fat tires, I decided to snap some photos and comment about the most excellent equipment I used this year. It is surreal the abuse this equipment takes each week from August through December and I hope it can help you with your 2009 equipment plans!

Click on the photo below to take you to my Flickr set and each photo is commented including on-photo notes.

Most of all I want to thank Paul at Rock Lobster, Shotty at SRAM, Lance at TRP, and the entire Boulder Cycle Sport crew (Brandon, Mike D, Jeremiah, Dwayne and Coleman) for all the work and support this season!

This is an incredible sexy bike Greg.
I like the black/white combination with little touchs of red.

Too bad that we don't have those Rock Lobster frames here in Europe :(

Great writeup Greg. Always cool to see how other parts work for other racers. I've been using the SPD pedals for years on my MTBs so I just stuck with them for CX as well. Two races(Jingle Cross 1&2)this season saw this become a problem due to mass mud buildup. I may have to look into the Times just to see if they could be a new option for me.

Hey Clement! I spoke with Paul and he indicated his European distribution is through Merlin Cycles in the UK. Their website is here:

Magnific Greg, thanks.

Could be a good option for 2009/2010 season. Hope they have extra-small sizes :p

again...this build is really amazing !

Awesome setup. Jealous -- especially of those TRP barrel adjusters. WHen's that retrofit kit coming out??

Greg
How do you keep those tires alive in the goat headed world of Colorado? Especially the races at Boulder Reservoir.

Honestly Logan, I do not use them when I know the courses are notorious for goatheads. I ran Challenge Grifo clinchers with Stans tubes as an example that day.

Stan's tubes?
As in you got Griffos to work tubeless, or you used a regular tube with stan's sealant?
sorry for all the curiosity
