Forum > Newbie Training

Hey Guys...So I am looking for some help with some CX Training regimens...I have two months before my first exhilarating cross experience...I have spent most of the summer doing rides of various length, difficulties, etc on my new Cross bike as well as adding in a spinning class or two at my local gym when the weather has been tough. Some of these rides have been more of the casual (lets just go for a 30 mile ride with my wife) and some have been more serious (Lets push the threshold of what bike can handle). Since I have 60 days to go and really have no idea what to expect, I am looking for some things that I can do which will help with the training and conditionning specifiicly for a cross event. Any Ides would be great!!! Thanks in advance for the help.

Hey!

Great post. My suggestion to you is to stress less about the fitness aspect of things (think heavy heavy intervals if you really want to get on that in August) and focus as much time and attention on your skills...e.g. cross specific skills to start dialing in your fluidity on and off the bike. A wee bit of running may help but don't over do it. You need to focus on dismount/re mounting and get that committed to memory. That is the single best thing you could be doing at this stage.

Best of luck!

I can't stress the dismount/remount practice enough. As a fellow newb this is what tripped me up (ha!) the most, but you just keep doing it until it's practically a reflex. You can save so much time during a race just by nailing your bike wrangling skills.

Great, thanks for the insite...a local bike club is actuall putting on a class that trains on this...Since my only mount-dismount experience is when I am starting finishing a ride, I think you guys are spot on...Happy Crossing!!!
